By the end of 1995, the world's rutile (including anatase) reserves and reserve base were 33.3 million tons and 164.4 million tons respectively, and the total resources were about 230 million tons (TiO2 content, the same below), mainly concentrated in South Africa, India, Sri Lanka, Australia. The world's ilmenite (TiO2) reserves and reserve base are 274.3 million tons and 435.3 million tons respectively, with a total resource of about 1 billion tons; mainly concentrated in South Africa, Norway, Australia, Canada and India.
By the end of 1996, China had 357,040,900 tons of primary titanium (magnetite) iron ore (reduced to TiO2) reserves (including 231,915,000 tons of A+B+C grades); ilmenite (placer) mineral reserves of 38,031,900 tons (including A+B grades) +C grade 21.4717 million tons); rutile mineral reserves 2.5686 million tons (including A+B+C grades 737.3 thousand tons); rutile TiO2 reserves of 7.5086 million tons (including A+B+C grades 2.4243 million tons).
