Content distribution

Application of Titanium Alloy

Smelting method

The raw material for preparing metal titanium is mainly rutile, which contains more than 96% TiO2. Countries that lack rutile ore, such as the Soviet Union, use "high-titanium slag" made of ilmenite, which contains about 90% TiO2. Due to the rising price of natural rutile and the decreasing reserves, all countries tend to use ilmenite to make titanium-rich materials, namely high-titanium slag and artificial rutile. Titanium was discovered in 1791, and the first pure titanium was made in 1910, more than a hundred years later. The reason is that titanium is very active at high temperature, and it is easy to combine with oxygen, nitrogen, carbon and other elements, and very harsh conditions are required to extract pure titanium.

Titanium compounds

The oxide of titanium is titanium dioxide, which is the highest valence oxide of titanium. Natural TiO2 is rutile, pure TiO2 is snow-white powder and is the best white pigment, commonly known as titanium dioxide, white when cold and light yellow when hot. In the past, the main purpose of mining titanium ore was to obtain titanium dioxide. Titanium dioxide has strong adhesion and is not easy to chemically change. It is always snow-white and is an excellent white paint. It has high refractive index, strong coloring, high hiding power and stable chemical properties. Development history abroad

In 1940, Luxembourg scientist W.J.Kroll obtained pure titanium by reducing TiCl4 with magnesium. In 1948, the United States produced 2 tons of titanium sponge by the magnesium reduction method, and the industrial production of titanium began.
